Congress ridicules on Yash Bharti Award for Abhishek

The Congress in Uttar Pradesh today flayed the Mulayam Singh Yadav government’s conferring the Yash Bharti award to Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan saying this was aimed at roping in the actor for campaigning in coming assembly elections.

Dismissing the award as “Bachchan Bharti” award, Congress spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said the honour “did not have any significance” and except Mulayam Singh Yadav no other state government gave these awards.

“Mulayam confers this award on the person he can use in his election campaigns. He has used Amitabh Bachchan in his election campaigning and now he is trying to rope in Abhishek. That is why the award has been given to him,” Singh told newsmen here.

He said “the only achievment of Samajwadi Party government in the state is promoting Amitabh and Abhishek’s films”.

Till now, 14 of their films have been made tax-free, Singh said adding Jaya Bachchan was also sent to Rajya Sabha by SP under its policy to appease industrialists and film stars.
