A colourful parade of 30-odd floats along a road running adjacent to the Mandovi river marked the opening of the International Film Festival of India here today.

The parade began at 2.30 pm beneath Mandovi bridge and culminated at Campal ground, next to IFFI’s inaugural venue, after covering almost five kilometres along Dayanand Bandodkar Marg, named after Goa’s first chief minister.

More than 30,000 people witnessed the parade which had a touch of Hindu mythology.

The festival, which will be formally declared open by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Das Munshi.

Besides the film business, the Entertainment Society of Goa, the nodal agency for IFFI, has planned various entertainment and creative activities during the festival that will be open to non-delegates.
