Sammir Dattani in negative role

After Mani Shankar’s “Mukhbiir”, which releases in November, Sammir Dattani has landed himself another challenging role in Vikram Bhatt’s new film “Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi”.

Vikram’s new film casts Sammir as an ambitious young politician who’d go to any length to get where he wants.

“I can’t reveal much about the role. But it’s a role with very definite shades of grey. What enthuses me is that so far I’ve always played noble guys who get involved in problematic situations. ‘Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi’ is the first role where I’m required to be destructively ambitious,” Sammir told IANS.

“Like my roles in ‘Mukhbiir’ and ‘Maratthon’, Vikram’s film gives my character a great graph from ruthlessly ambitious to final redemption,” he added.

The film also stars Bhatt’s old favourites Aftab Shivdasani and Dino Morea.

“I’m the only lead in the cast who’s new to Vikram’s unit. That’s a special challenge. But Vikram is such a cool director. He knows exactly what he wants and how to get it out of me.”

The role also requires Sammir to have a relationship with an older woman.

“And that’s another challenge because I’ve never had a relationship with someone older. But Vikram is taking care of that.”

Bhatt says he chose Sammir because he will fit well into the role.

“It’s a complex role. And when I chose Sammir I was sure that he had the right look. The talent came later. When he faced the camera he took me by surprise. Sammir is the character. He has stunning potential,” said Bhatt.

For Sammir the journey from the candyfloss lover-boy in “Uff… Kya Jadoo Mohabbat Hai” to the complex role of the government informer in “Mukhbiir” who changes his identity so many times that he no longer knows who he has been, in his words: “An interesting three-year learning experience.”
