Rahman replaced yet again
“Pirate” is perhaps Priyadarshan’s most talked about film in recent times and has evoked a lot of interest because of its theme of music piracy.
While the casting for the project is still under way, Priyadarshan has solved another major dilemma - who will do the music score?
“I’ve chosen Pritam again. The film requires a young earthy modern sound. And after the kind of music Pritam gave in my ‘Garam Masala’, I know he’s the right person for it.”
Priyadarshan’s first choice was A.R. Rahman.
“I’ve worked extensively with Rahman in my south films,” said Priyan, who is scripting a neo-realistic Malayalam film for his mentor Hariharan.
“I thought Rahman would be the ideal choice for a film on and about contemporary music. But I don’t think he’ll be able to give me the time that I require. I want to work with someone who’ll be there to collaborate constantly.”
Absentee creation is just not on the menu this time. And Pritam is all there - charged and ready to go.
“I’m so excited that he’s chosen to give me the responsibility for ‘Pirate’. He said it is a very important film for both of us. I agree completely. Though the music in ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Garam Masala’ clicked, the songs were not that integral to the theme. ‘Pirate’ is a musical subject with lots of scope for experimentation,” said Pritam.
“Working with Priyan Sir is a great honour, first in ‘Garam Masala’, then I’m doing his ‘Bhaagam-Bhaag’ and now ‘Pirate’. God has been very kind,” Pritam added.
Priyadarshan is scripting ‘Pirate’.
“The title will change. And the cast will grow,” he promised.
