Movie on 9/11 aftermath bags award

“Hope and a Little Sugar,” a film on the aftermath of September 11 attack in the US, has won the best feature film award at the South Asian Film Festival held recently in New York.

“I am very happy to learn that the film was selected for the award. We have worked very hard on the movie, completing it in one schedule,” Anupam Kher who plays the lead role in the film told PTI here.

“The competition was conducted through text votes by viewers and went on for a week. The overwhelming majority went to “Hope and a Little Sugar,” he added.

Revolving around a poignant tale of love, set against the forces of hate and intolerance the movie centers on the romance between an aspiring Muslim photographer and a young Sikh widow in New York City in the weeks before and after September 11, 2001.

Filmmaker Tanuja Chandra, who has previously directed mainstream Bollywood movies, did the film’s entire production on the internet with her American producers, in an unique experiment.

The film was screened on the opening night at the South Asian Film Festival held from October 4 to 8 in New York.
