Jaspal Bhatti launches bribery gift shop
Noted comedian Jaspal Bhatti has used Diwali as an occasion to mobilise public opinion against corruption by setting up a “bribery gift shop” in one of the shopping complexes in the city today.
The ‘Nonsense Club’ here, of which Bhatti is the president, also demanded that Diwali, the festival of lights, be declared ‘National Festival of Bribes’.
“Congratulating” all the corrupt people of the nation on the occasion, he said that during Diwali, nobody is ashamed of giving or receiving bribes.
Diwali which was once considered a pious festival often referred to as ‘The Festival of Lights’ has slowly become a ‘Festival of Bribes’, he said.
If you want your business to flourish or a ticket in the next elections, an approval for your unauthorised structure, one could just walk into the shop and buy your gift.
Bhatti recalled the tale of Lord Krishna who had accepted even a humble gift of dry rice from his friend Sudama out of love for him.
“But today even if you take a rice cooker or a microwave as a gift to the minister, there are chances he many just kick you out, Bhatti, noted for his celebrated satires on TV, said.
The minister in power will not embrace you until you offer him 50 per cent partnership in your rice factory, he said.
In his typical tongue-in-cheek style, Bhatti declared that his “highly qualified staff” was trained to give consultancy- cum-detective service to find out what kind of gift one’s boss will like.
