Amidst high drama, Punjabi pop singer Gursewak Mann was first arrested by the Haryana Police Tuesday and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody, but later released on regular bail.

The singer, who had been booked by the police Monday for outraging the modesty of a young woman from adjoining Himachal Pradesh at a nightclub late Friday night, “surrendered” before the local police Tuesday.

Mann is the younger brother of famous Bhangra-pop singer and actor Harbhajan Mann.

A young woman from Himachal had accused Mann and his unidentified friend of taking pictures of her with his mobile phone inside the ladies washroom of the North Park resort’s nightclub during a late night party.

Mann had denied any such happening saying that his friend from Canada was taking his pictures.

The police arrested him and interrogated him regarding the nightclub episode.

Following this he was produced in a local court here Tuesday where the judge opined that one of the sections imposed on Mann was non-bailable.

The judge remanded Mann to 14 days judicial custody. The police was ordered to take him to the prison in Ambala, 45 km from here.

However, within a couple of hours, Mann’s lawyers filed another application before the judge pointing out that even that section of law was bailable as per judgments of higher courts.

Following this, the judge recalled the judicial remand of Mann and released him on a personal surety of Rs.20,000.

Mann’s lawyer Manoj Kumar said there was some confusion regarding the offence against Mann being bailable or not and that is why the earlier order had to be reversed.
