‘Don’ all set for release tomorrow
A remake of the famous Bollywood movie ‘Don’ is set for release tomorrow may prompt comparisons between superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan.
Describing the most important essence of ‘Don’, Shahrukh Khan said that he was blessed that he had got a chance to do the movie.
“I did ‘Don’ for the fact that I have grown up watching Amitji’s ‘Don’. I am very blessed that I was given a chance but apart from that, Farhan Akhtar has made some amazing screenplay changes to the inherent quality of ‘Don’. , the beginning of ‘Don’, the ending of ‘Don’, and to me, I did the film for those portions. I think what the beauty is and relevance for today is the fact the way he has turned around the screenplay. I think that is the most important essence of the new ‘Don’,” Shahrukh Khan said.
Reflecting on the character of ‘Don’, Khan said it was an image of a ‘bad guy’ that is different from the stereotypical villains of Bollywood movies.
“Few things which were essential for the character, one he should be very quiet, very menacing and never have the need to shout. Whenever I have played negative roles, I like the psychopath variety of bad guys and the intelligent variety of bad guys. I try to cover up that physicality by use of intelligence for a character like ‘Don’,” Khan added.
Farhan Akhtar, the movie’s director says the gangster’s character left such an impression on his young mind that he was totally mesmerized, and was convinced that only Khan could do the role.
“Especially, when you are writing the dialogues of a movie you think of the actor who can give the best delivery. The image that had formed in my mind was that of Shahrukh Khan,” said Farhan Akhtar.
The leading lady of the movie, Priyanka Chopra, says the new ‘Don’ is a tech-savvy offering to Generation Next.
“Many people belonging to this generation have not seen ‘Don’ and this movie is our presentation to the generation of today. The present generation will be able to better relate to the new ‘Don’ because it is technically sounder,” Chopra said.
The bow-tie and dotted shirts of Bachchan make way for Khan’s glamorous black leather ensembles and designer suits. And the glitzy trailers have given ‘Don’ a Hollywood’s ‘Matrix’ meets ‘Mission Impossibl’ feels to the production.
Bachchan’s ‘Don’ was released in 1978, was a runaway hit. Now, lets’ to what extent Khan’s ‘Don’ go.
