Cartoon Network today announced a pan-Asian search for new animation talent in the region in hopes of converting it into full-fledged shows.

“We are inviting pitches from anyone — artists, writers, animators, people with no experience, to send us their pitches for an animated series. We are hoping to combine local talent with our production quality to hopefully produce the next generation of cartoon heroes,” Turner Entertainment Senior Vice-President and General Manager Ian Diamond told reporters here.

“Although this initiative is across the Asia Pacific region, but given the huge amount of talent in Indian animation and rich culture of story telling, I am confident that most of the pitches will come in from India,” he added.

The network will narrow down the pitches to the best 30 or 40, and in tandem with the creator will create a “Show Bible”. “This Show Bible will have every single detail about the show, including character outlines, sample scripts and sketches,” said Turner Entertainment Creative Director Arnab Chaudhuri.

“Out of these 30 creations, 10 will be produced into full pilot episodes to be aired on the network worldwide,” he added.

“The Indian animation industry has so far been used for outsourcing, but we want to change that by harnessing the creative instincts within. We believe that along with strong technical talent, creativity will firmly entrench Indian on the global animation map,” Diamond said.
