BSE sends legal notice on use of Dalal Street building in `Gafla’ promos
(No Ratings Yet)The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has sent a legal notice to director-producer of film `Gafla’, taking exception to the use of images of its tower on famous Dalal Street here in the advertisements and promos of the film.
In particular, the title of the movie, which appears across the BSE tower in film’s advertisement posters, harms the stock exchange’s reputation and portrays it in a negative manner, according to the legal notice sent to producer and director of the film Sameer Hanchate.
Hanchate told PTI that he received the BSE notice the day before, and has immediately filed caveat in the Bombay High Court, so that no court order be passed without giving him a hearing, if BSE decides to approach the court.
The film, which does not star any high-profile actor except for Vikram Gokhale, is being released today.
Hanchate admitted that the film was inspired by Harshad Mehta scam of 90s, but added that “it is completely fictional work.” “Censor has given clearance for the release. Moreover, the BSE building, over the years, has become a symbol of share market in the media. So use of the building in the movie or in the advertisements is not improper,” he told PTI.
