Australia province lures Indian cricketers, Bollywood
The government of South Australia province is seeking to promote its tourism and educational institutions, attract Bollywood to shoot at its picturesque locales besides luring Indian cricket talent for its new academy.
The celebration of the ‘South Australia Month’ was kick-started late Tuesday with South Australian minister Jane Lomax-Smith opening a billboard show promoting “Australia as the place to holiday in, study and work in”.
Cricketer Darren Lehman is also here to espouse a new cricket academy to lure Indian talent for training there.
“It is part of our initiative to raise awareness of South Australia and build stronger bilateral ties,” said A.K. Tareen, South Australia’s director of trade and investment for India and South Asia.
South Australia will seek “sister state relationship with Tamil Nadu”, said minister Lomax-Smith, announcing the month-long interaction between the two governments. “Sports, agri-business, films, water and automotive industry will be on the agenda of Mike Rann, South Australian prime minister, who will lead a business delegation to India at the end of October,” she added.
Former Miss World and leading Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is shooting in Adelaide for “Love Story 2050″, “which happens to be the biggest film shoot ever in Australia”, the minister disclosed.
“It actually names and features Adelaide and South Australia in the script. It’s a wonderful showcase for our state,” she said.
The Adelaide University, the University of South Australia, Flinders University and the new Carnegie Mellon campus is host this year to 1,898 students, she said.
