Asian Film festival beginning tomorrow
The nine-day fourth Asian Film Festival, featuring 80 films from 22 Asian countries, will begin here tomorrow.
The festival is being jointly organised by the Aashay Film Club and Indira School of Communciation in association with Asian Film Foundation, Mumbai, sources said.
The Festival would be inaugurated by veteran actress Shabana Azmi in the evening while the inaugural film would be Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘The Blue Umbrella’.
The festival would conclude on October 20 with an Iranian film directed by Majid Majidi. A retrospective of his four films — ‘Children of Heaven’, ‘Colour of Paradise’, ‘Father’ and ‘Baran’ — would also be held in his honour.
Majid Majidi has also been selected for the Zenith Asian Award instituted last year.
During the inaugural ceremony, veteran actors Sulochana and Chittaranjan Kolhatkar will be felicitated to to mark the 75th year of Marathi cinema.
Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt, Naushad, V Shantaram and Hrishikesh Mukherjee would be offered tributes for their contributions to Indian films.
The festival would showcase films made in most of the Indian languages, exclusive films from China, Japan, Israel, Iran and many other Asian countries, special screening of ‘Rang De Basanti’, this year’s official entry from India for the Oscars.
