Lucknow Citizens inspired by ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’
Inspired by the latest Bollywood blockbuster ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, student leaders of Lucknow University today wore Gandhi caps and distributed flowers on the campus “to protest” the proposed imposition of age limit on contesting student union elections.
The students, who have been in the news in past for their violent protests, took out a procession inside the university campus and distributed flowers to students and administrative officials asking them not to implement the J M Lyngdoh Committee recommendation on imposing age-limit for contesting student union elections.
The Gandhian way of protest was evident in another part of the city also as residents took out a protest march against opening of a wine shop near a temple in the city’s busy Rana Pratap Marg.
Scores of protestors reached the residence of one Janardan Barnwal’s and gave him roses while asking him to remove the wine shop from near the temple.
They also offered roses to the passers-by along with a memorandum. Police detained some protestors who were later released.
Protestors said they were inspired by the film ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, in which actor Sanjay Dutt resorts to Gandhian means to deal with his foes.
