‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ made tax-free in Chhattisgarh
Sanjay Dutt’s hit film “Lage Raho Munnabhai”, which upholds Gandhian values, was today exempted from entertainment taxes by the Chhattisgarh government.
An expert committee, comprising officials from the culture, excise and other departments, watched the movie and recommended that it be given a “tax-free” status, Commercial Taxes and Excise Commissioner Ajay Singh told PTI here.
On the recommendation of the committee, the movie was made tax-free for exhibition in any cinema hall in the state, he said.
Giving the reason behind the decision, he said, “Any movie which has a social value or message can be exempted from entertainment tax and after the screening for the committee, the department decided to make it tax-free.” During the nearly three-year tenure of the government of Chief Minister Raman Singh, this is the first movie to be exempted from entertainment tax.
