Film on non-violence to be screened on satyagraha centenary
On the fifth anniversary of 9/11 terror attacks, a documentary based on non-violent movements, produced in the US, would be screened here as part of its showing in different parts of the world.
‘A force more powerful’ would be screened to commemorate the 100th year of `satyagraha’, a non-violence movement launched by Mahatama Gandhi on September 11, 1906 in South Africa for civil rights, denied then by white rulers.
The screening, to be organised by Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal, would be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan premises here, Bhavan’s spokesperson T R K Somaiya said here today.
The film focuses on the popular movements that have fought authoritarian regimes or military forces without the use of traditional weapons such as guns or bullets. They fought through strikes, boycotts, petitions, walko-uts and parades, Somaiya said.
