Delhi Police today directed popular Hindi television network ZEE to remove promotional hoardings of one of its upcoming soap operas saying that the wordings of the advertisement were demeaning to women. It has written a letter to the Managing Director of ZEE TV drawing his attention to the advertisement which carries a punchline “bete ek fayda, betiyan ek ghata; beta apna dhan, betiyan paraya dhan.” “The advertisement smacks of gender bias and is demeaning to women. We have asked them to remove the hoardings put up at several places in the capital immediately,” a Delhi Police spokesman said.
