Centre says nothing to do with reduction in Amitabh’s security

Noting that reduction in security cover to superstar Amitabh Bachchan was based on Maharashtra government’s perception of threat to him, the Centre today said it had nothing to do with the matter.

“This (reduction in security) is the prerogative of the state government. The Centre has nothing to do with it,” Union Minister of State for Home, Sriprakash Jaiswal, told reporters here.

He was responding to a question on reduction in security cover of the film star by Maharashtra government.

Jaiswal said he had no information on the matter and added that the Centre could look into it only if someone lodged a complaint.

He said security category in which a person was to be put was decided by the state government, which alone reviewed the threat perception and accordingly increased or decreased the security cover.
