The cameras started rolling yesterday for Kamal Hassan’s ambitious film Dasavatharam, which puts the veteran actor’s mettle to the test in ten different roles in a single project. The big budget Kamal starrer that also features Mallika Sherawat is keenly awaited for striking make-up effects that will give it a distinct box office appeal. To give the film an international feel, Kamal Hassan spent time in the United States recently, finalising the detail for the characters. Kamal’s winning combination with “Crazy” Mohan is expected to work its magic with Dasavatharam, as it has in previous projects. The music for Dasavatharam is also set to make a splash, with Bollywood’s Himesh Reshammiya (Aap Ki Khatir) doing the score, the first by him for a Tamil film. Equally, the art quotient of the film is aimed high with the involvement of Bollywood’s Samir Chanda (Krrish, Rang De Basanti) in the venture. Most of the characters in the film will echo the strong screen presence of Kamal Hassan’s memorable performances of the past such as Nayagan and Avvai Shanmugi. Creating a set of characters with a contemporary relevance has been a challenge on which the actor has been working for months now. It is expected that filming for Dasavatharam, which goes on location today in Muttukadu, a backwater off the picturesque coast between Chennai and Mamallapuram, will go on for at least eight months. The movie is being produced by Oscar Films and directed by K.S.Ravikumar.
