Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar today spoke to Varanasi District Magistrate and enquired about the health of Shahnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan and wished his speedy recovery.

The Governor asked the DM to convince the Shahnai maestro to come to Lucknow in a state plane for better treatment at King George medical college or Sanjay Gandhi post graduate institute of medical sciences, official sources said.

The 91-year-old Shahnai maestro has refused to leave Varanasi.

Rajeswar also discussed the matter with Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and said that if Ustad Bismillah Khan agrees to come to Lucknow, a state plane may be sent to bring him here.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had earlier sent a cheque of Rs 2.50 lakh for the treatment of the Bharat Ratna.
