The ‘Kamaal’ girl in AAP KI KHATIR!
Her debut making film, AAP KI KHATIR is yet to be released but Bhumicka Singh, daughter of hi-profile business manager, Harii Singh (to Aishwarya Rai), has already gained recognition as the ‘Tu Hai Kamaal’ girl, thanks to the promos of the number, which is ranking high on the popularity charts. “I feel absolutely flattered when people come and ask me whether I am the ‘Tu Hai Kamaal’ girl. The number has become a hot craze among the youngsters,” she smiles. The bigger compliments have been coming in from family friends and well- wishers who contend that the confidence she exudes in the number, puts her on par with her two experienced co-stars, Priyanka and Amisha. Bhumicka gives the entire credit to director Dharmesh Darshan and music director Himesh Reshammiya. “Himesh-ji’s foot-tapping music has ensured that the number has become a hot bet at all the discotheques. On the other hand, I owe my look in the song to Dharmesh-ji, who has given Nikki’s character a distinct identity in the film,” she says.
She recalls the effect the number had on the people around when it was actually picturized at Filmistan studio. “It was incredible. Dharmesh-ji had erected a huge set for this particular song with a record number of 150 dancers and it was shot for seven whole days. The song initially began with me, Dino Morea and Akshaye, dancing to its tune and Amisha and Priyanka joined later. The moment the five of us hit the floor, the people around went absolutely mad and swung to the beats of the number.”
Incidentally not many people are aware that the role of Nikki that Bhumicka plays in the film is restricted only to a special appearance, but that is hardly a deterrent according to her. “It is a brief but very well-defined role of a cute, adorable and sexy young girl from London, who is flirtatious and full of attitude. She’s a perfect blend of Indian and Western culture and knows the secrets of her two cousins (played by Priyanka and Amisha). No doubt the role is a small one but I consider it as the ideal launch pad irrespective of the length of the role. That’s because the film will undoubtedly have its share of audiences. It is produced by a top ranking banner, directed by a reckoned name and has the top names starring it. On my part I have given my best to the brief role I am playing in the film and there’s no reason why I shouldn’t get the best of offers,” she enthuses.
What really made her feel good was the way director Dharmesh Darshan worked on her character in meticulous detail. “Dharmesh-ji wanted to present it in a special way and worked on every aspect of the role, right up to the costumes. He is a fair director who honours his words. Moreover, I never ever felt sidelined among the top stars in the film. My role was projected and promoted exactly the way it was promised. If anything, my role only increased at the end of the film. It is not as if my role was slashed on the editing table,” she says.
Her two co-stars, Priyanka and Amisha Patel, also made her feel comfortable during the London shoot of the film. “Priyanka was very helpful and went out of her way to make me comfortable. She’s a thorough professional. I didn’t quite have a chance to interact with Amisha, but she was very cordial,” she recalls.
Right now, she is eagerly awaiting for the D-day when the film hits the screens. “I am getting really restless as the release date approaches. There’s no mistaking that the film will hit the bull’s eye at the box-office. As for how much difference it will make to my career, I am already beginning to see the results,” she laughs.
