Strict security at TADA court; onlookers keen to see Dutt

Tight security was being maintained outside the designated TADA court in Arthur Road jail premises in central Mumbai today, as the court began dictating judgment in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

Over 200 policemen, including armed personnel, had cordoned off the area around the court premises and checking everyone.

As the accused and survivors of the blast arrived at the premises, and onlookers gathered to catch a glimpse of actor Sanjay Dutt, who is one of the accused, police kept an eye on the crowd through binoculars.

“We have taken all the precautions to maintain security at the venue, keeping in mind the importance of the case,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dattatray Karale told PTI.

The media contingent was present in full strength, with even representatives of international media organisations jostling for a vantage point to catch the `action’.

Meanwhile, film producer Bunty Walia was among those who had come to express solidarity with Dutt.

“All of us in Bollywood hope that the suffering that Sanjay has undergone in the last 13 year would end soon”, he told reporters.

A nearby restaurant did a roaring business with media and police personnel frequenting it.
