Star TV uncertain about next installment of KBC going on air
Amitabh Bachchan fans may have to wait for a while before they watch the superstar in his much lauded television avtaar in Kaun Banega Crorepati, with Star TV saying it was still uncertain when the next installment of the hit series would go on air.
“There are some problems. We are still in talks with Bachchan about going on air next year. Also it could be a possibility that the original creator of the show, who holds the rights may sell them off, and we may have to buy them again from the new owner,” Star India sources said.
Star CEO Sameer Nair admitted that things were still uncertain about when the next season of KBC would air, saying “He (Bachchan) is busy, we too are busy this year with new shows. We are looking at next year, but it is still at a very primary stage. Bringing back the second season for only 24 episodes does make sense, so we want to start a brand new season next year.
KBC 2 or “dwitiya” as it was popularly known had to be abruptly pulled off air late last year after Bachchan fell seriously ill mid season. He spent the next three months recuperating from a major surgery of the intestine.
Channel sources said it was not financially viable to bring back the second season for only 24 episodes. “It is a very expensive and difficult show to produce. People have to be flown in, logistics have to be worked out. Also with there being an ambiguity on the rights issue, we are not looking at anything in the near future”, they added.
