Magistrate raps police for shoddy probe in Bhansali case
A court here has transferred the investigation of a criminal complaint against film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali from Aarey police station to Borivali police station.
The court of the metropolitan magistrate at Borivali has ordered that the new investigation officer should submit his report within 15 days.
Magistrate A G Mohabey passed the order on August 8 with severe strictures for the tardy pace of investigation, which was being carried out by API More of Aarey police sub-station.
Farida Hussain, an antique dealer, had filed a complaint against Bhansali and directors of his company, Applause Bhansali Films. Hussain alleged Bhansali used domestic LPG cylinders during the shooting of his film “Black”.
“She filed a criminal complaint as using domestic LPG gas for commercial purposes is a non-bailable offence under the Essential Commodities Act,” said Y P Singh, Hussain’s lawyer.
Singh earlier moved the Bombay High Court when police initially did not register an FIR. The High Court referred the case to the magistrate’s court.
Magistrate Mohabey had ordered police in June to file a report in two months. When it was filed, he found it unsatisfactory. “Probe is misdirected and being delayed,” he observed. — PTI
