Film producer Nitin Manmohan moves high court in cheating case

The Bombay High Court today stayed proceedings of a criminal case registered against film producer Nitin Manmohan in the Andheri metropolitan magistrate’s court.

A complaint was filed in the magistrate’s court against Manmohan by Mamta Malhotra, the proprieter of Media Vision Advertising, for alleged cheating.

Malhotra said she had entered into an agreement with Manmohan, according to which he had to incorporate advertising for the brand Fem Care Pharma in the film “Deewangi”.

She moved the magistrate’s court alleging that Manmohan did not abide by the agreement and her company was cheated of Rs 20 lakh, which was paid as an advance.

The magistrate’s court recently issued summons to Manmohan, following which he approached the High Court to demand the quashing of proceedings.

Justice Abhay Oka, while admitting the petition, stayed the summons issued by the magistrate’s court, Manmohan’s lawyer Vivek Kantawala told PTI.

According to Kantawala, the magistrate’s court had intially dismissed the complaint, saying the dispute was of a civil nature. However, Malhotra later moved the sessions court, which ordered the magistrate’s court to take up proceedings against Manmohan.  — PTI
