The Supreme Court Wednesday granted exemption to veteran actor Dilip Kumar from personal appearance till Sep 4 in a case of cheque bounce pending in the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

A bench comprising judges K.G. Balakrishanan, P.P. Naolekar and D.K. Jain granted the exemption to Dilip Kumar, also a former Rajya Sabha member, on a special leave petition against the Andhra Pradesh High Court order.

Senior counsel Harish Salve, appearing for Dilip Kumar, mentioned the petition before bench and pleaded for stay of the impugned judgment declining to cancel the non-bailable warrant issued by the judicial magistrate, Hyderabad for non-appearance in a case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The bench permitted the petitioner to move an application before the trial court for exemption from personal appearance.  — IANS
