Anees Bazmi’s SANDWICH on 25th August

In normal course it is the presence of stars that attracts buyers in the market but there are exceptions in Bollywood when a director’s name is occasionally used to generate the much-needed curiosity about a film. Take the example of the Govinda-Raveena-Mahima starrer, SANDWICH, scheduled for release next week (August 25). The film which is being publicized all over as the next film of the NO ENTRY director, was earlier titled HUM DO HAMARE DO, was to be released soon after the release of DEEWANGI. However, the producer, Smita Thackeray had a tough time finding buyers since Govinda was not going through a very promising phase in his career. However post the success of NO ENTRY, which struck gold at the box-office, Percept Pictures showed a keen interest in the film and decided to acquire its world rights.Last week when publicity and advertisements of the film featured in the media announcing his next release, Bazmi was in for a big surprise, though he admits it was a pleasant one. “I am happy for the producers and am glad that the success of my last film has helped in the marketing of my next film. I have no problems with the fact if my name is being used in the publicity material to generate audience curiosity about the film. It is nice to know that someone benefits from my name but I am not sure how the audiences will react to it, considering that Govinda hasn’t had a release for some time, Raveena is married and settled down and Mahima is doing small roles in films,” the unassuming Bazmi reveals.

However despite the fact that the star presence gives the yesteryear feeling but Bazmi points out that the comedy in the film is something to watch out for. “It is a hilarious comedy and I was eagerly looking forward to it at that point of time. Even if its late, it is finally releasing and that’s a reason to celebrate,” he smiles.
