Amisha threatens A-I staffer, probe ordered

An Air India staffer has lodged a police complaint against Bollywood actress Amisha Patel for allegedly abusing her for not upgrading the star’s friend’s ticket to the US while the airline has ordered a probe into the incident.

The staffer yesterday lodged a non-cognizable complaint against Amisha at Sahar police station here, saying the actress had allegedly verbally abused her over the upgrading of her friend’s ticket.

Amisha and her friend had booked tickets on an Air India flight to the US. She allegedly lost her temper after the check-in staff agreed to upgrade her ticket from business class to first class but refused to do the same for her friend.

The star is alleged to have verbally abused the check-in staffer and threatened to hit her, the complaint said.

Later, Amisha and her friend proceeded for the US by the same flight, sources said.

Police said they might question Amisha when she returned from abroad.

Meanwhile, Air India said it has appointed a one-man committee to probe the allegations of misbehavior by Amisha.

“We are in the process of finding out what exactly happened. We have appointed a committee to probe the incident. Based on the committee’s finding’s we will take necessary action,” Air India spokesperson S Venkat said.

Such incidents involving arguments between VIP travellers and airline employees are on the rise, industry sources said. Last year, cricketer Harbhajan Singh had a verbal conflict with an airport security official when the metal detector made a beep sound during a security check at the Bangalore airport.

Harbhajan had allegedly indulged in an argument with the Central Industrial Security Force official, saying he was a VIP traveller and such checkings should be done away for them.

Earlier, South Indian film actress Simran had allegedly abused officials at the Chennai airport after she was asked to proceed for a security check.

Airline officials said they were unable to take any action against VIPs.

“If it’s a mistake on the part of our employee, we can take action. But currently there is no rule enabling us to take action against a traveller,” an Air India official said.  — PTI
