People should not lose heart for recent drought in int titles
Mumbai: Bollywood star and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen today said that the recent drought of international titles for India is a passing phase and people should not lose heart in Indian beauties so soon.
“As long as the girls being sent to the pageant they are aware of the responsibility they carry on their shoulders, we should applaud them. When you get up on the stage it is not the make up and the designer dress but what you are that matters,” Sen said here.
She was speaking at the launch of Ira Trivedi’s “What Would You Do To Save the World?”, a satirical look at the world of beauty pageants.
Trivedi, who participated in the Miss India contest in 2004 in her debut book has provided a humorous and often satirical look at what actually goes on behind the making of a beauty queen.
“Ira’s truth about her experience at the paegent may be her’s but it is not a generalisation. Her story was different and so was mine. If I wrote this book, it would be a totally different one, but we are both here to celebrate each others opinions and respect the differences,” Sen said.
However, it was ironical that at an event where the talk was of pageants which talk of peace and harmony in the world Sushmita’s exit left behind a trail of destruction at the South Mumbai bookstore where the launch was held, after a scuffle between camerapersons and security personnel.
As Sen was leaving the venue, a scuffle erupted among camerapersons and security guards, during which a glass door was smashed. However no one was seriously hurt.
