”Indian films do not need Oscars; Bollywood more creative”
Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan has said Indian films do not need Oscars and claimed that the ”desi” film industry was more creative than Hollywood. “I do believe that Indian film has its own exhibition. Whereas we respect the Oscars and what they are, our creativity is the best,” the Indian film icon told reporters at the House of Commons last night. Bachchan said though he has never appeared in any Hollywood film, he would certainly consider roles from the West. He said his next major film Babul will be released some time in November this year. Babul, directed by Ravi Chopra, was almost ready and it would be released “either in the middle of November or last week of November,” he said. The film tells the tale of a man (Bachchan) who tries to bring happiness back into his daughter-in-law’s (Rani Mukherjee) life after his son (Salman Khan)’s death. Popularly known as “Big B”, Bachchan has acted in over 150 films, playing rebels, smugglers and vigilantes in the 1970s and 1980s. Now he plays more mature roles, many written specially for him. His latest hits include “Black”, “Waqt”, “Sarkar” and “Bunty Aur Babli”.
