The story centered around 2 convicts, Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan, who are hired by a retired police officer, played by Sanjeev Kumar. The motive was to capture a ruthless dacoit, Gabbar Singh, played by Amjad Khan who made a debut with this movie. The movie is pretty lengthy but it will surely keep you at the edge of your seat all the time.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

Released in the year 1995, DDLJ, as it is popularly known or Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge had Kajol, Amrish Puri, and Shah Rukh Khan in the lead roles. The movie went on to become the ultimate example of Bollywood romance and also went on to become the benchmark of every other romantic movie that was made after this. The story revolved around a simple Punjabi girl by the name of Simran, played by Kajol, who belonged to an orthodox family. She meets Raj, played by Shah Rukh Khan, during an international holiday to Europe and falls in love with him. Raj is from a modern family and is extremely rich. Simran’s father, played by Amrish Puri, was against this and prevented his daughter from meeting Raj. The rich guy finally lands up in Punjab in order to impress the father of the bride and also marry her with his permission.

Mughal-e-Azam

This epic movie was released in the year 1960 and was set in the late sixteenth century during the Mughal era. The story of the movie revolved around Emperor Akbar, his son Prince Salim, and a court dancer Anarkali. The prince falls in love with the dancer and naturally the emperor has problems with the relationship. Elaborate costumes, majestic sets, and realistic battle scenes turned the movie into an epic. It also had a big star cast of those times in the form of Madhubala, Prithviraj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, and Durga Khote.

Lagaan

Set in a small Indian village named as Champaner, this movie was all about the battle of a few villages against the mighty British during the British era in India. The battle was not the traditional one that was fought with weapons. It was a battle of a game of cricket. The treaty between the teams was that if the British won, they would ask for 3 times the annual lagan or tax and if the villagers won, they would be relieved from paying the annual tax for three consecutive years. Mother India

This movie is all about the hardships that the rural farmers had to face in a newly independent India. The movie was also the first one from Bollywood that got nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. It had Nargis, Sunil Dutt, and Rajendra Kumar in the lead roles. Made by Mehboob Khan, the movie centered on Radha, played by Nargis, whose husband is missing and who had to face numerous hardships in raising her two sons. 3 Idiots

The story of the movie was all about 3 students of a prestigious engineering college of India who struggle to overcome hardships in life to become the toppers of the college. Guide

Released in the year 1965, Guide was directed by Vijay Anand and has Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman in the lead roles. The story is basically an adaptation of a popular novel written by R. K. Narayan. The movie was about Raju, who was a tour guide but with time turns into a holy man. The movie was an instant box office hit once it got released. The award-winning performances of both the lead actors along with the melodious songs helped the movie become successful. Amar Akbar Anthony

With Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, and Rishi Kapoor in the lead roles, this movie was another popular production by Bollywood. It was about 3 brothers who get separated during their childhood. This theme got so popular that directors use it even to this day. The three kids are raised by 3 different families from different religions and eventually meet when they grow up. Bombay

Directed by Mani Ratnam, this movie is based on the real 1992 riots that took place in the city of Mumbai, then Bombay. They settle in Bombay where their fathers come to visit them. The couple have a twin son of which one is given a Hindu name and the other a Muslim name. how they lose their sons in the Bombay riots and how they successfully find their sons form the story of the movie. Mr. India

This is probably one of the most popular movies ever produced by Bollywood. Made by Shekhar Kapur, this movie had Sridevi, Anil Kapoor, and Amrish Puri in the lead roles. Anil manages to find a watch that helps him become invisible. On the other hand, Mogambo, played by Amrish Puri, is a villain who wishes to destroy the world. Being invisible, Anil manages to save the earth from Mobambo’s plans with the help of Sridevi. The movie became a craze all over the nation after its release and the songs became an instant hit. Anand

This movie was released in the year 1971 and had Rajesh Khanna play the title character. It also had Amitabh Bachchan and was made by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The story was about a man named Anand who suffers from Lymph sarcoma of the Intestine and is at the last stage of the cancer. Gol Maal

Ghajini

This Aamir Khan starrer was released in the year 2008 and is mainly remembered for the lovely songs, the awesome acting of Aamir and his chiseled body. The story is somewhat based on the Hollywood classic Mememto made by Christopher Nolan. This is basically a suspense thriller that is based on the story of a multi-millionaire who suffers from a short-term memory loss after losing his girlfriend and getting hit deliberately by a Ghajini, the villain of the movie. The way he gets back at Ghajini and avenges his girlfriend’s murder is the center of the story. The movie was a great success and even critics praised the acting of Aamir Khan in the movie.

Jodha Akbar

This movie is based on the love affair between Emperor Akbar of the Mughal Dynasty and his wife JodhaBai. Directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, this movie had some magnificent sets, awesome acting by the lead actors Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, breathtaking royal dresses. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

This story is about an extremely rich Raichand family. The father played by Amitabh Bachchan has 2 sons, elder played by Shah Rukh Khan and the younger Hrithik Roshan. The elder son was adopted, whereas the younger son is their own. However, both Amitabh and his wife Jaya promise never to make their elder son think that he is not one of their own. Life takes a turn for the family when the elder son falls in love with a simple girl from the Chandni Chowk area of Delhi. He marries her despite being opposed by the father. He leaves the family and settles down in a foreign land. The younger son promises that he will bring back the family together and leaves in search of his elder brother whom he idolizes. The acting skills of the actors and the storyline has made this another must-watch movie produced by Bollywood.
