Yahoo! has launched a new Web site, "Yahoo! Video" that combines the power of Yahoo! Search, with new upload, browse, and community features. Yahoo! says its new site is designed to deliver a comprehensive, entertaining, online video experience to users, as also an unparalleled distribution platform to video publishers.
Yahoo! Video is actually a revamp of Yahoo! Video Search, and will compete with providers of video search, including Google, MSN, and AOL, as well as video-sharing sites such as YouTube.com and MySpace.com.
The new site will allow users to access the most popular and relevant videos on the Internet, and will allow them to post and share home-made clips.
According to Yahoo!, the company already hosts and serves truck-loads of music, news, sports, movies, and television videos per month, and Yahoo! Video will be a combination of these assets - with content from across the Web, and directly from publishers that enables users to determine which videos are most important to them.
Jason Zajac, general manager - social media, Yahoo!, said, "As the video space continues to emerge, our strengths in search, content, personalization, and community make it possible for Yahoo! to offer a highly engaging video experience, for both users and publishers. Yahoo! Video makes it easy for users to discover high quality content, while video creators can be discovered by the Web s largest global audience."
Yahoo! Video will incorporate featured, popular, category, and tag sections that enable users to browse easily for videos; subscribe to, and watch channels and related groups of videos; stay current on content from their favorite publishers; and access a huge database of videos from the Web.
In addition, Yahoo! Video will enable users and video enthusiasts to participate in an active social community through rating, reviewing, and sharing videos.
