'I 'll jump if Aamna says she likes me'
He is the Shah Rukh Khan of small screen. Also called the poster boy of telly tube, he has won accolades and hearts by the millions. Gauri Kohli meets Rajiv 'former Sujal' Khandelwal as he talks about his successful stint in Kahiin To Hoga, his new role as anchor and, of course, his marriage plans
How did you get into acting? ---------I was working behind the camera before becoming an actor. I have made around 30 documentary films and writing has been my passion. As for acting, I love it. I auditioned for the role of Sujal and got selected. The rest is history.
You shot to fame as Sujal...
I'm happy I got to play Sujal. It is very close to my heart and I don't want to break away from it. I feel humbled when people call me Sujal even after a year I quit the show.
Why did you quit Kahiin?
Because I had stopped associating myself with the character that was emerging as also the changing storyline. I felt I was cheating my fans so I called it quits.
From a lover boy to an action hero. How was the transition?
I enjoyed every bit of Time Bomb and my character Varun. We did our best though it was not as great a success as Kahiin...
You have now turned anchor. Tell us more about it?
Hosting Deal Ya No Deal has been a wonderful experience. Anchoring is very different from acting where you grow as a person. The best part is that I get a chance to be myself in Deal.... I wish to bring honesty to the show and feel that nothing should be fake.
Are you willing to work with Ekta Kapoor again?
I'm open to working with anyone.
Your future projects?
I'm doing a serial called Left, Right, Left with Tony and Diya Singh which will start in June.
There are rumours of you and Aamna as a couple off-screen...
Aamna and I shared a great chemistry on screen. She is a good actress, a dear friend and above all, a wonderful human being. If one day she says 'Rajiv I like you,' I'll jump out of my chair in ecstacy!
Is marriage on the cards?
I strongly believe that marriages are made in heaven. I'm someone who loves to live life to the fullest. It will only happen when it is destined.
The best compliment you have ever received?
It is still on its way.
