In what seems to be a mini renewal of the browser wars Mozilla Foundation is coming out with its first beta version of Firefox 2.0 this week, which puts it in direct competition with Microsoft’s IE7 Beta 3 that came out only a short while ago.
I have been following these builds closely as nightly builds have been available for quite some time and it has increasingly been getting stable. Unlike IE7, this is not a revolutionary upgrade, but more of an evolutionary one adding new features including an integrated spell checker and an anti-phishing tool. While the spell checker is designed for frequent bloggers and people using message boards. The phishing tool, which in effect is a filter, warns the users of potentially dangerous sites, details of which are stored on local lists, along with Google’s site listing. IE7 has also implemented this feature since its initial betas.
