Do Bigha Zameen (1953) is a Hindi movie, directed by Bimal Roy. It is the story of a dispossessed peasant, Shambhu, played by Balraj Sahni. The film has heavy socialist themes. The film highlights the condition of poor farmers in pre-independence India, which had an agrarian society. The farmers were mainly poor as they had very small land holdings & also were uneducated. The farmers were naïve while the landowners and the moneylenders were skilled and highly atrocious. So most of the farmers moved to cities in search of bread.
