Washington, Mar. 2: The Oscar-nominated film '12 Years a Slave' grabbed 5 awards including best feature and best director at the Independent Spirit Awards held on Saturday afternoon in Santa Monica, California.

'Blue Jasmine' Cate Blanchett grabbed the 'Best Female Lead' trophy and 'Dallas Buyers Club' Matthew McConaughey was declared as the 'Best Male Lead', Us Magazine reported.

Movie with the best screenplay was given to John Ridley for '12 Years a Slave', the Best Supporting Female was given to Lupita Nyong for '12 Years a Slave' whereas, the Best Supporting Male was taken by Dallas Buyers Club' Jared Leto.

The Independent Spirit Award winners are:

Best Director - Steve McQueen, '12 Years A Slave'

Best Female Lead - Cate Blanchett, 'Blue Jasmine'

Best Male Lead - Matthew McConaughey, 'Dallas Buyers Club'

Best Supporting Female - Lupita Nyong'o, '12 Years a Slave'

Best Supporting Male - Jared Leto, 'Dallas Buyers Club'

Best First Screenplay- Bob Nelson, 'Nebraska'

Best Cinematography- Sean Bobbitt, '12 Years A Slave'

Best Editing- Nat Sanders, 'Short Term 12'

Best Documentary- '20 Feet from Stardom,' Director/Producer: Morgan Neville, Producers: Gil Friesen and Caitrin Rogers Best International Film - 'Blue is the Warmest Color' (France)

Best First Feature - 'Fruitvale Station,' Director: Ryan Coogler; Producers: Nina Yang Bongiovi, Forest Whitaker

John Cassavetes Award- 'This is Martin Bonner,' Writer/Director: Chad Hartigan, Producer: Cherie Saulter

Robert Altman Award- Mud (ANI)
