Washington, February 26: Akon has launched an environmental project in Africa, which will provide electricity to one million households by the end 2014.
The 'Lonely' hitmaker has teamed up with charity officials and bosses of local corporations for his 'Akon Lighting Africa campaign', which aims to equip homes with solar panels, Contactmusic reported.
The campaign will provide electricity and promote energy sufficiency in the continent.
The 40-year-old singer, who earlier went on a nine-country tour across Africa, has been meeting politicians in his native Senegal and places including Mali, Guinea, Gambia, Gabon and Burkina Faso to win their support for his campaign.
Akon had earlier told his fans on Twitter that his team is getting a great response from many of the leaders and that they are planning to keep up the momentum of the campaign. (ANI)
