New York, Dec. 8: Strings of rainbow-flag themed Christmas lights have caused a furor in Rome because it promoted an anti-homophobia message following the suicide of a gay teen, it has been revealed.
The lights, which are draped along the city's main shopping street were chosen to show that the local council supports homosexual people, the New York Daily News reported.
However, the right-wing Fratelli d'Italia party claimed that the lights were "provocative and ideological".
But the company, which put the lights up, has now asserted that the rainbow-colored theme would be dedicated to late anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela. (ANI)
