Washington, December 31: A new study has revealed that college-age sexters in committed relationships frequently engage in unwanted sexting.

According to the study done by Purdue University Fort Wayne, people exchange explicit message or photos for reasons that have little to do with attraction or arousal, the Huffington Post reported.

The researchers called it the "requisext", which is an X-rated missive sent out of a sense of necessity or obligation, but not purely for pleasure.

The study, which was done on the sexting habits of 155 undergraduates who were or had been in committed relationships, revealed similarities between online and offline sexual behavior.

Fifty-five percent of the female respondents said they had previously engaged in unwanted sexting, while 48 percent of men had done the same.

The study is set to be published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior. (ANI)
