Mumbai, Jan 29: As per the recent service tax judgement which was not in accordance to his demands, Resul Pookutty will be appealing the Appellate Tribunal for it. Due to the newest directive of the government, which has given arise the debate on service tax that whether actors, producers, directors should also pay taxes is not a new thing for Resul.

For more than a year, he has been fighting against a similar case in court. The Income Tax department has asked for a recovery sum of 14.65 lakh from the sound designer for the years 2006 till 2011. He filed a case after that in 2012, but the verdict went against him. Resul being a student of law too has not given up. He says the specific act does not specify his task or job. He just conceptualizes sound for a movie, and after the conceptualization, starts recording work. Therefore the Oscar winner awarded Resul is all set to appeal the Tax Appellate Tribunal.

He has drawn attention of all towards the case of Tarun Tahilani, fashion designer which was ruled by Bombay High Court in 2010 where the designer was reprieved as he was called an ‘artist’ and thereby no service tax was to be applied on his earnings.
