London, Jan 7: The "Kate Effect" has been widely credited with boosting sales, but some now suggest that the phenomenon is overstated because of the Duchess' penchant for wearing styles that have long sold out.
High street brand directors said that Kate's habit of choosing last season's designs meant that those wishing to emulate her look had already missed out, the Telegraph reported.
Others claimed that those who admire the 30-year-old's style are unlikely to be the types to directly copy it.
Roland Mouret, the designer, who has worked with the Duchess, said that business was more likely to be boosted by US reality television stars.
He told Vogue that that the kind of people who like Kate's style are not the kind to rush out and copy her dress.
"You don't see hundreds of women running around looking like her. To be honest, we're more likely to get orders on a dress that Kim Kardashian's worn," he said.
Fashion experts note that the Duchess is gradually making the transition from high street to high end.
She is sourcing fewer outfits from her favourite stores such as Zara, Reiss and LK Bennett and instead favouring designs taken straight from the catwalks by designers such as Alexander McQueen, Alice Temperley and Stella McCartney.
But the Duchess's propensity for wearing older designs means that those hoping to emulate her style often find that the creations have long gone from the fashion rails. (ANI)
