Mumbai, Oct 15: Popular celebrities trademark the names by which they attain popularity. For example Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has his initials SRK trademarked. The makers of Ferrarri Ki Sawaari had to take his permission to use his name in multiple places in the film. In the West, getting a trademark on one's name is quite common. Roger Federer, Michael Gordon and Jennifer Lopez are among some of the names that have been trademarked.
Now Bollywood Badshah wants to join those list of celebrities by trademarking his initials 'SRK' by which he is popularly known as. He has reportedly filed an application at the Trade Mark Registry, New Delhi, to trademark his initials, SRK, to increase and protect his brand value. According to reports, SRK has sent an application to the Trade Mark Registry to ensure that his initials will not be used without his permission in the future.
SRK is yet to receive final approval from the agency. As per the rules, once a name is enrolled and published in Indian Trademark Journal, anyone can object to it within three months. Once the name gets confirmation, as a trademark, the use of brand name can be done only after permission from its bearer.
The application submitted by the actor bars several industries from using his name. Those mentioned on his application include tobacco products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, water, fresh fruits, vegetables, salt and spices among others in a long list. A source close to the star says, "SRK has become bigger with every project. He has taken this decision after a lot of thought. Career wise, it is a great decision to safeguard his brand."
