Mumbai, June 22: Dhak Dhak beauty Madhuri Dixit is all set to sign for the sequel for Ishqiya and she is also starring in 'Gulab Gang'. The film is a action oriented which was first announced in 2009, but never took off till now. The film makers at that time approached Tabu. Now Madhuri will be playing a leader of a vigilante group of women who look out for women victims of social injustice. Recently there is a buzz on internet that Tabu is believed to have been approached to play a politician in Gulab Gang. However, it seems she turned down the role because she wanted the lead role, which is being played by Madhuri Dixit.

A close source from the project says, "Tabu refused the film because she wanted to play Madhuri's role of a female vigilante who heads a group of women who help other fight social injustice." The source went on to say "The politician's role is just as strong as Madhuri's. Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor and other actors have also been approached." However Tabu rubbished all those reports saying, "I was approached for the protagonist's role many years ago. Because of lack of funds, the film never went on the floor. They may have tried to get in touch with me this time, but we haven't had a fresh meeting. Reports of me wanting Madhuri's role are baseless."

The film is Produced under the Benaras Media Works banner, Gulab Gang is a story of a gang of women fighting against social injustice. The film is being directed by former film journalist Soumik Sen and is likely to have Mahie Gill and Shilpa Shukla as part of Madhuri's gang. It will go on the floors after the monsoon and release next year on Women's Day. However, it is said that Sinha and Sen are now planning to approach actress Raveena Tandon or Karishma Kapoor for Tabu's role.
