London, Nov 22: Leonardo DiCaprio is being lined up to play the cult TV character the Bionic Man.

The 37-year-old actor is the top choice, as film bosses want to remake the 1970s classic, which originally starred Lee Majors as Steve Austin.

However, to bring it in line with today's inflation, they plan to call him 'The Six Billion Dollar Man'.

Original actor Majors, 72, became a global star when he stepped into the role of injured astronaut Austin whose life was transformed after a bionic body transplant.

According to the series, Austin is rebuilt by the government to fight crime.

His limbs had the power of a bulldozer, with a sprint speed of 60mph and his eyes could see for more than a mile.

The show ran for five years on television and even spawned the spin-off programme The Bionic Woman starring Lindsay Wagner.

"The big gossip is that Leo will be The Bionic Man and it will be a movie or a TV special," the Daily Star quoted a source as saying.

"Apparently he's keen but he wants to see the script.

"They want to go back to the book that the show was based on called Cyborg.

"But with all the special effects we have nowadays it will be far more hi-tech than the original 70s show and will probably be a lot more exciting," the source added. (ANI)
