August 21, 2010:Funnyman Jim Carrey has got his dream fulfilled! Recently, the actor expressed his desire to star in the movie based on a children’s book ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins’, written by Richard & Florence Atwater. Now, the news has come that Carrey is going to play the titular Mr. Popper in the movie.
The film will be directed by American film director Mark Stephen Waters, who has earlier directed movies like Freaky Friday, Just Like Heaven and Mean Girls. There is no specific information about when the films will go on the floors. However, there is a speculation that the shooting will start in the fall.
The movie revolves around a businessman of New York City, whose life gets overturned after receiving six penguins in the mail. He becomes attached to these penguins gradually and the wackiness stars occurring as he almost lands in jail.
The movie adaptation will be little different from the original book, where Mr Popper is a poor housepainter. Here, Mr. Popper will lives in a posh apartment. In the book, Popper gets a surprise gift of a penguin following his writing to a radio broadcast anchored by Antarctic explorer Admiral Drake. In due course, this one penguin turns into 12 thus creating more problems for the poor fellow. He then trains the penguins to perform so that he can support their expansive brood.
Well, one thing is sure that Jim Carrey is the only man who can make this interesting character alive on screen and entire family can enjoy the movie together!
