February 11, 2010: Girish Puthenchery, renowned Malayalam film lyricist, passed away on Tuesday night in Kozhikode. The cause of his death was cerebral hemorrhage.

He had been admitted to the hospital about a week ago as he was unwell. He is survived by his wife Beena and his children Jithin Krishnan and Dinanath. Puthenchery has been a seven times state award winner and has even won the popular Asianet award for his lyrics three times. He has often been compared to greats like P Baskaran and O N V Kurup.
