Actor Mel Gibson didn’t act for 8 years after he did Signs because he had a bad experience shooting for the film.

He owes it to filmmaker M Night Shymalan for helping him realize that he needed to take a break from acting to improve himself.

He talks about how Shyamalan told him to not overdo everything so much. Gibson realized that while he was the oldest guy on the sets and he felt least sophisticated. He decided that he had gotten into acting because he liked doing it but he walked away from it when he found out that he wasn’t bringing anything new to it.
