It’s official. Ekta Chaudhary, the charming 22 year old from Delhi was crowned Miss India Universe 2009 in a glittering ceremony held in Mumbai. Standing tall at 5'9.5" and weighing 55.5kg, vital statistics of the new Miss India Universe are reported to be an amazing 32-24-36!

Pooja Chopra was chosen Miss India World, while Shriya Kishore was crowned Miss India Earth, by a panel of judges comprising big names such as Madhur Bhandarkar, Ajay Devgan, Sushmita Sen, Asin and Deepika Padukone among others. In accordance with tradition, the winners from the previous year – Miss India World Parvathy Omanakuttan, Miss India Universe Simran Kaur Mundi and Miss India Earth Tanvi Vyas – made an appearance on the ramp to bestow the crowns on their respective successors.

Glitz and glamour was understandably the mainstay of the event, which saw performances by a lively Genelia D’Souza and a very sedate Kangana Ranaut, not to mention a sizzling finale routine by former Miss World Priyanka Chopra, where the final five joined her on stage to shake a leg. Priyanka’s comment that ‘desi girls’ are the hottest in the world and unbeatable, received an expressive applause from the audience.
