Piracy today is costing the film industry billions of losses every year. While the real source is yet to be nabbed, various theories doing the rounds behind this racket have left the special police team investigating it baffled!
In the latest instance, the Ghaziabad police claimed to have busted an international film DVD racket with the arrest of three persons on 20th November. A pirated DVD of Yuvvraaj, released theatrically on 21st, was re-covered from the trio. Anuj, Sanjiv and Krishnapal, all from Muzaffarnagar, were arrested by the police while they were on their way to Delhi to sell the DVDs of Yuvvraaj.
According to the police, the DVDs are made in collusion with technical persons working in the film laboratories of Bombay. Payments are reportedly made and received through hawala in Delhi.
If this is really true then its high time it is stopped with immediate effect! The industry has already had a very bad 2008 and with only two main big releases left – Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (Dec 12th) and Ghajini (Dec 25th) it can stand to suffer more extra losses just because the leak happens to be in its own backyard! -(SAMPURN)
