Mohandas, the debut film of cameraman turned director Mazhar Kamran, has been invited by the South Asian International Film Festival in New York for a special screening on 26 October. Mazhar Kamran is famous for his camerawork in Ram Gopal Varma's Satya and Kaun apart from films like Jhankaar Beats and Masti.

Mohandas is based on reality and has its dark moments. It deals with the mindset of political/socio nexus in rural backdrop.

About what inspired him to make Mohandas, Kamran says, "I have always been inspired by the happenings around us and has thought how I can really make a difference. So I decided to make my film Mohandas. Life and problems and murders of people like Satyendra Dube, Shanmugam Manjunath, Safdar Hashmi etc have inspired this story."

Kamran further adds, "But instead of trying to be very idealistic, I have looked at the situation in realistic manner. When I told this concept, all my artistes came in without any hesitation. And the irony is that we went through many incidents that were extremely close to the actual scenes in my film, making them spoof like situations."

The film stars Nakul Vaid, Sonali Kulkarni, Sushant Singh, Sharbani Mukherjee, Aditya Srivastava, Govind Namdeo and Akhilendra Mishra.

Along with Mohandas, a few other Indian films that are also going to be screened at the South Asian International Film Festival are Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion, Nandita Das' Firaq, Rohan Sippy produced The President Is Coming and Ramchand Pakistani. -(SAMPURN)
