The failure of Ahmedabad multiplex owners to screen Bollywood film 'Parzania', has angered the youths of the city, who are now threatening to boycott the multiplexes.

Critically acclaimed 'Parzania', based on 2002 Gujarat riots was released across the country last month. However, it was not screened in Gujarat, as the theatre owners were not keen to show the 'controversial' film.

Though, the theatre owners did not officially disclose about the threats from Hindu organisations like Bajrang Dal, the youths accused the Hindu hardline organisations for forcing theatre owners to withdraw 'Parzania'.

"We know that a particular section of our society which goes by the name of Bajrang Dal has given a veiled threat that they will not allow the screening. The film's director Rahul Dhokalia has had series of meetings with multiplex owners. The police commissioner who assured the multiplex owners if they need security, they will be provided. But, the multiplex owners decided not to listen to the police and people of Gujarat, but to Bajrang Dal," said Narayan Singh, a protestor.

The youths have also launched an online petition and have already received over 2,400 signatories supporting the screening of 'Parzania' in the State.

Youngsters distributed chits at the ticket windows here on Friday demanding 'Parzania' release in the State.

"We are distributing these chits to everyone and saying that they should forward them to others and spread the word around that we the people of Gujarat want to see 'Parzania' in multiplexes only, not on pirated CDs. We don't want another censor board when the censor board of India has approved it already," Sharbari, another young protester said.

Earlier, Bajrang Dal had said the film might hurt the sentiments of the Hindu majority.

The film is set against the backdrop of violence, which erupted after the Godhra train fire incident. The film portrays the true story of the disappearance of a 13-year-old Parsi boy, Azhar Mody, and his parents' fruitless search.
